GRANDMOTHER:

How to handle criticism which upsets you? This is something you can answer for yourself through an experience.

When you feel upset because you have been criticized in some perceived way, this is the time to make a conscious effort to stop that flow of thought by simply flowing your energy and focus to something which brings you joy and brings another joy. In other words, be of service to someone else. Or flow joy to something which brings great happiness to many.

Advanced work would be flowing joy to something new which you discover in that moment. You decide, "Well, I'm going to be excited about cantaloupes this week." Or, "I want to focus on my friend Betty. What can I do to be of more help and service and a good friend to Betty?"

Now, you see the single thought -- remember that thoughts are great creations -- well, a single thought of flowing very positive happy energy to something new, to another being, puts you in a mode of service to others, and that in itself provides a time for a shift in viewpoint regarding criticism.

When you feel criticized, especially if you think it is unfair, you take on an identity which has very low confidence and very low desire to be of service to others. Do you see?

When you feel "criticized," you do not feel like being of service to others. You become very insular. You become very self-focused.

So, if in that moment before a few seconds more have passed, you can begin to imagine how you can be of service to someone else that is genuine and needed!

And you begin to flow your energy into joyful new discoveries.

The "newness" of it does matter, to shift your vibrations.

But when you do all of this, you enter a different identity regarding the criticism. You can become so focused on the new service to others or the new joy, that the identity of one who is in service to others begins to replace the identity of one who is "critizable," if you will -- one who has done something "wrong."

And within this new state of confident service to others as your primary directive, you can see a way to be more loving with yourself and more loving with the individual or individuals you believe criticized you!

It is a kind of forgiveness which emerges in the identity of service to others, bringing joy to others, finding new joy and creativity in your life. It is the identity which forms the viewpoint and the interpretation.

In this more confident and more loving identity you will find new wisdom about why you were upset about the criticism, who you think that makes you become, if it were true, that criticism. And you will see that it is your perception of it that is the issue.

Now, you can also simply affirm yourself when you feel criticized, and you can say or write or draw many wonderful things about you.

But I will tell you if you want to be in the Graduate School of Handling Criticism,  you will quickly begin to imagine what beautiful ways you might be of service to someone else -- or to find and discover new things to flow your energy to but with a bent toward service to others.

That is the Graduate School of Handling Criticism. Your viewpoint changes so significantly that you, in fact, gain new wisdom.

That is the purpose of your life: To be excellent at gaining new wisdom. And criticism is simply fodder for that.  It is another University of Life.

Now, you do not have to wait for criticism to go flow your energy to be of service to someone else or to discover new wonderful, joyful things to flow your energy to!

You can do that right now!

“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

“The only calibration that counts is how much heart people invest, how much they ignore their fears of being hurt or caught out or humiliated. And the only thing people regret is that they didn't live boldly enough, that they didn't invest enough heart, didn't love enough. Nothing else really counts at all.”
